2017-2018 Fulbright Study/Research Alternate
Country: New Zealand
Summary of Research: Ariana's Fulbright study/research application is on the nature of the physiological and emotional response to music. This project will contribute to a newly developing body of research at the intersection of aesthetics and neuropsychology.
Why did you apply for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program?: I decided to apply for the Fulbright because I’ve wanted to study abroad and this looked like a perfect opportunity to undertake a serious research project in my niche interest, the philosophy of music.
What was the most challenging aspect of the Fulbright application process?: The hardest part was writing the personal essays. I’m not used to writing about myself.
What is one interesting thing you learned about yourself when developing your application essays and materials?: I definitely got better at telling my own story during this project. I refined my voice and learned how to show others how compelling and important philosophical research is to me.
