Series Overview

UH Energy, the UH Bauer College of Business, and the Center for Houston's Future have conducted a major research project on Houston's potential role as "Houston’s Low-Carbon Energy Capital".

Principal Investigators and UH students have been conducting research and modeling on four related areas:

  • Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage
  • Low-Carbon Electricity Grid
  • Hydrogen
  • Circular Plastics Economy

The results of these projects will be unveiled during a 3-series event, starting on October 9th, 2020 and running through October 23rd, 2020. The series will not only share the findings of these studies, but also begin a broader discussion on Houston's energy future with leading industry experts. Each session will conclude with an audience Q&A.

    October 9th - Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage

    Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage has been determined to be not only an option for de-carbonization in our world but an essential and required component of the energy transition.

  • Houston: The Low-Carbon Energy Capital - A Roadmap: Low-Carbon Electricity Grid

    October 16th - Low-Carbon Electricity Grid

    Creating a low-carbon flexible grid is the cornerstone to achieving a net zero world. While this grid will be moving toward increasing amounts of renewables (both wind and solar) as well as energy storage with more distributed energy resources providing additional grid reliability, the timing, technology and scope of this new grid is not clear.

  • Houston: The Low-Carbon Energy Capital - A Roadmap: Hydrogen

    October 23rd - Hydrogen

    Global decarbonization momentum has elevated the focus on the unique and many roles of hydrogen (H2) in a low carbon future energy system. The greater Houston area has the world's leading hydrogen system, and the opportunity to bring substantial volumes of clean blue hydrogen to market quickly.
