FULBRIGHT SCHOLAR PROGRAM
The Fulbright Scholar Program provides a key resource in support of campus internationalization. Fulbright provides the following grant opportunities for researchers, lecturers and administrators:
CORE
The Core Fulbright Scholar Program sends 800 U.S. faculty and professionals abroad each year to teach and/or research for 3 to 12 months. Grantees lecture and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields. Grants in more than 125 countries are available.
NEW CORE INITIATIVES 2014-2015
CHAIRS
The Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program comprises approximately forty distinguished lecturing, distinguished research and distinguished lecturing/research awards ranging from 3 to 12 months. Awards in the Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program are viewed as among the most prestigious appointments in the Fulbright Scholar Program. Candidates should be eminent scholars and have a significant publication and teaching records.
NEXUS
The Fulbright Regional Network for Applied Research (NEXUS) Program will bring together a network of junior scholars, professionals and mid-career applied researchers from the United States and other Western Hemisphere nations for a series of three seminar meetings and a Fulbright exchange experience.
SPECIALISTS
The Fulbright Specialist Program (FSP) promotes linkages between U.S. academics and professionals and their counterparts at host institutions overseas. The program is designed to award grants to qualified U.S. faculty and professionals, in select disciplines, to engage in short-term collaborative 2 to 6 week projects at host institutions in over 100 countries worldwide. The program provides grantees with the flexibility to schedule projects within their current academic or professional commitments. International travel costs and a stipend are funded by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Participating host institutions cover grantee in-country expenses or provide in-kind services.
GERMAN STUDIES
The German Studies seminar provides participants with a firsthand look into how Germany’s political, economic and cultural systems deal with contemporary issues. For U.S. scholars, the 2 week engagement in substantive dialogue with political, academic, scientific, journalistic and cultural leaders in Germany can strengthen research and teaching.
IEA SEMINAR
The International Education Administrators (IEA) seminars program helps international education professionals and senior higher education officials from the United States create empowering connections with the societal, cultural and higher education systems of other countries. These 2-3 week seminars provide participants an opportunity to learn about the host country’s education system from the inside out as well as establish networks of U.S. and international colleagues. Grantees return to their home institutions with enhanced ability to serve and encourage international students and prospective study-abroad students. IEA Seminars are available in France, Germany, India, Japan, Korea, and United Kingdom.
